Enchanted Forest is a board game that for me, needs no introduction, as it was a game I loved myself as a child. I have actually asked my Mum for it a couple of times but it appears it was donated many years ago. So I was super excited to be asked to review it. For people that haven’t come across it before it’s a classic family board game from Ravensburger for 2-6 players, which involves around going on a treasure hunt.
Scattered across the board are lots of enchanted trees and under the trees are lots of different pictures, pictures more importantly of treasure. The game starts by revealing a treasure card and then all of the players have to hunt for the treasure hidden under all of the individual trees. As soon as one treasure is found a new card is revealed and the hunt begins again. The player who has found the most treasures at the end of the game is the winner.
This is very much a game that needs good memory skills! And this is certainly something in my house where the kids have an advantage over Mummy. I also had to be on my guard for rife peeking and cheating! But it was all in good fun. The game says it’s suitable from 4+ but I would say my 4-year-old struggled to play it on his own and needed adult support, but my 8 and 11-year-old were happily able to play it on their own. There are different sets of rules that enable you to play longer and shorter games, you could also play it where everyone needed to find one treasure to make the game shorter for little ones with not as good attention spans too. We played the classic game just so that everyone could understand it, but you can add some twists by adding in spells, which is great for an added twist.
Enchanted Forest a classic game for a reason and I actually think part of that is the game’s simplicity. It’s easy for children to understand and work to beat the adults which is always a winner. It’s great for developing children’s memory and strategy skills. When they begin to see the long game and remember where all of the pieces are and how to get the most amount of treasure. It’s definitely a game that will stay in our game cupboard.
