Dreaming of a Good Night’s Sleep

Sleep is perhaps not something you think about too much until you’re not getting enough. Motherhood introduced me to a whole level of sleep deprivation I never knew existed. Now more than ever I believe a good night’s sleep is so important and I appreciate them more than I ever did.

Another thing I love about sleep is dreams, good dreams anyway. I love the crazy things that can happen in them. For example, I can usually always fly in my dreams – who doesn’t want to fly? I also had a recurring dream in my teens about being chased by Wolves. I’d always start by running away from them and end up usually with a friend having to lock down a house so that the wolves couldn’t get it. Another dream I have experienced throughout my life is dreams about my teeth falling out. Of course my favourite ones are always feature Chris Evans or Liam Hemsworth. But we won’t mention those my husband may read this…

Since my son started school in September his dreams have definitely increased. I guess it’s just part of having more things to learn and process. From getting very distressed because he dreamt his bed was full of slugs and when he woke up he was convinced they are still there. To perhaps his all-time favourite when he driving around inside a Transformer. He complained when I woke him up in the morning after that one. Can’t say I blame him, it sounded pretty cool.

Which is why I was really interested to come across the new collaboration between Adjustamatic Beds and world-leading dream expert Ian Wallace (I wanted an adjustable beds from Adjustamatic in my home after both of my c-sections, sitting up was always the most painful bit!).

I’ve put the video below, but I found what Ian said about dreams really interesting. This quote in particular really struck a cord with me:

“..it’s also our deepest hopes and ambitions. And when you ask a child about their nightly dreams you also start to find out about their dreams for real life. “

It made me realise that I need to pay more attention to what my children are telling me after their dreams, because I may learn more about them. What about you have your children shared any fantastic dreams with you?

This is the first part in a series about dreams on the Adjustamatic Youtube channel.

  1. This is really interesting, I never realised that dreams had so much significance. And I agree with you about motherhood and sleep deprivation, oh my goodness I’d do anything for a decent night’s sleep!
